The ebb and flow of the economy changes your staffing needs. When the economy cycles high, you’re competing for staff and very likely juggling a higher wages bill. When the heat comes off, the scenario switches to become more competitive for the employee but customer demand for your products and services is likely to have changed considerably as well. So you, the small business operator, need to manage a staff structure that is as flexible as the market you operate in.
Mindful of never saying never, I reckon a dedicated HR professional within a small business is a pretty rare thing. This means thousands of businesses get on with it hoping like hell they can pick up the legal nuances of human resources and occupational health and safety as they do along.
Sometimes you need to be shown the right direction which is why the Chamber has partnered with our member, ProcessWorx for our HR Master Class Series and the expanded member benefit of 1 hour free advice for Fremantle Chamber members.
ProcessWorx assists a diverse range of SMEs throughout WA with the management of human resources, occupational health & safety and quality systems. Basically they provide businesses with everything they need to get the best out of their people.
The HR Master Class Series starts tomorrow (Wednesday, 21 October) and will provide you with practical knowledge, skills, tools and confidence to effectively and lawfully manage your employees.
The first workshop is Managing Under-Performance and includes how to conduct and complete a Performance Improvement Plan. The master class will include interactive discussions, real life case scenarios and up-to-date information.
The three other sessions in the series over the coming month are Performance Appraisal, Redundancy, and Communications & Consultation. To get the detail on dates, times and price – just click here.
Just after work tonight (5.30pm Tuesday 20 October), we are having a casual sundowner at the Fremantle Chamber Boardroom to mark the start of the HR Master Class Series. We will also be joined by ESS-Worldwide, a boutique Employment and Migration agency based in Fremantle that delivers professional advice within Australian Migration Law for individuals and corporations.
The ESS-Worldwide team will be there to talk about sponsorship of overseas workers for employers which will include information on what visa options are available to employ a foreign worker and what your rights and obligations
Please join us – hope to see you there!
